This Avenue Q review is brought to you by the letters ‘L’, ‘O’ and ‘L’.

Rated 4 stars

I have to admit I had high hopes for Avenue Q. I hadn’t heard the songs, but I had read articles mentioning song titles like ‘It Sucks to Be Me’ and ‘Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist’ and something told me it was going to be right up my alley. (Or Avenue, as it were.)

Avenue Q review

Avenue Q is a show that I would recommend to others.

From the first song about how life 'sucks' to the end it was full of laughs. I cannot remember the last time I have laughed out loud.

It was cleverly scripted and choreographed. Although the actors were seen holding the muppets the muppets took on a life of their own.

A show I would definitely see again given the chance.

French & Saunders review

Rated 3 and half a stars
'Basking in their sometimes-funny-glory'

My friends now think I have terrible taste in movies and I blame French and Saunders. Ever since I saw their ‘First and Final’ tour in Sydney, I have been intently demanding to know whether people have seen Mamma Mia in the hope that I’ll be able to say “ohmygod you should totes youtube French and Saunders’ Mamma Mia rip off.”

Avenue Q is all about sex!

For the best one night stand, you have to come and see me, Lucy the slut, on Avenue Q. After the show we can have a drink in the bar and who knows, we might have hot steamy sex.

The Internet is for Porn!

Me Trekkie, and me like porn. Don’t waste your time coming to our show. Instead you should stay at home and look up porn!

Porn, porn, porn, porn....

Dylan Moran at the Sydney Opera House

Rated 5 stars

Sometimes, obsessive Googling and an inability to accept ‘Sold Out’ as an answer can pay off. When I heard that Dylan Moran was playing at the Opera House (about a week before the April 28 show date), I did doubt that I would be able to get tickets.

Heath Franklin's 'Chopper'

On a whim, I decided to go and see Heath Franklin's 'Chopper' show at Wenty Leagues on 07/05/09. I had found a few good laughs from watching this character on the Ronnie Johns Half Hour, but I was a bit skeptical that it would translate as a stand-up show.

To be honest, I can’t honestly say whether I was justified in this or not. I can’t even really give a proper review of the show. Why? Well, there are probably three things that are key to any stand up performance:

1. of course, that the jokes are funny;

Rhys Darby

New Zealander Rhys Darby is probably best known for playing the band manager, Murray Hewitt in “Flight of the Concords” so you can forgive me if I walked into the Enmore Theatre expecting the “Murray” show. What I didn’t know about Darby is that he has been on the comedy circuit since 2002. His routine combines energetic physical theatre with sound effects that rival Sgt. Larvell "Motor Mouth" Jones of Police Academy fame. I’ll admit that this review comes from the pen of a kiwi but nationality aside, Darby the stand-up comedian is hilarious.

Russell Brand

Disclaimer - Though this review is penned by a single female, don’t be alarmed. Russell Brand really is hilarious judging by the tears of laughter streaming down the faces of two male companions at a slightly secret warm up show in Sydney.

Why Russell Brand is the ultimate catch -

1. Intelligent - Famous for running off at the mouth, it is somewhat surprising when watching him in the flesh how many syllables he can cram into one sentence. The kid is a dead set genius! A comical one at that.

Tim Minchin

I saw Tim Minchin at the Enmore Theatre on 05/04/09. He was incredible. He's not all comedy, y'know... he has a few rants and his jokes are verrrrrry pro-secular (and anti-'we don't really know anything and pharmaceuticals are bad'-hippy, which I perhaps didn't expect) and basically, he's one of the few people generally who I've ever seen speak or joke or sing where I agree with everything he says.
