Young Victoria review

Rated 4 and half a stars

In a radical departure from the frumpy, overweight, double-chinned Queen Victoria of popular mythology, the adorable Emily Blunt presents us with a modern heroine: a feisty independent princess who defies her mother, loves dancing and, ultimately falls in love with the right guy. This is a simple love story, with a little complication of parliaments, policy and intrigue thrown in.

The September Issue

If you love fashion, and think that over 700 pages of ads in a magazine that is just over 800 pages is nothing short of a fabulous thing – then you will adore The September Issue.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past review

This movie is, overall, a waste of time.

Having said that I'm biased because I'm a male in my 20s, not exactly the target demographic for this film.

Also having said that, it would seem the director did try to sweeten the deal - this movie quite possibly has more cleavage and promiscuous female behaviour than I've seen in any movie recently.

Terminator Salvation review

Rated 4 stars

Terminator Salvation is one of the few films released this year that I have been waiting for, and despite reading some mixed reviews beforehand I was certainly not disappointed when it finally hit the big screen.

Christian Bale is well cast as John Connor who after years of being targeted for termination is leading The Resistance of the remaining humans who survived Judgement Day.

Observe and Report

Rated 2 and half a stars

I’m so undecided about Seth Rogen. This movie didn’t really help. On the one hand, I think he can be hilarious and wonderful (‘Knocked Up’) and on the other hand, painfully unfunny whilst trying way too hard (‘Pineapple Express’). Unfortunately, this film is much more ‘Pineapple Express’ than ’Knocked Up’, or even ‘Superbad’.

Synecdoche, New York

… (Exhale) where to begin?

Take someone with you, unless you’re as bent as Philip Seymour Hoffman’s character, Caden Cotard.
Rated 3 and half a stars

Samson and Delilah

Rated 5 stars

A few weeks ago a friend gave me a free pass to attend a preview screening of a new Australian film, Samson and Delilah. I had no idea what I was seeing when I turned up and after a long day at work I was exhausted and truthfully, a little pessimistic about the hour and a half that lay ahead. I was unprepared for the inspirational power and passion that this story awakened in me.

17 Again

Every now and then you just want to see a movie that is entertaining and that does not involve too much concentration, so off I went to see 17 Again, starring Matt Perry and Zac Efron.

Star Trek

Last night I went to see the new Star Trek movie at IMAX.
Rated 3 stars

Ten of us all went in a big group. The great thing about going in a group is if you buy 10 tickets together it’s cheaper. So if you have a bunch of friends who are all interested in the same movie it’s definitely worth doing. Just make sure you have a plan for getting your money back from them.
