Review - Cassette Kids

If you’re going to be hot and sweaty, it may as well be for a good reason. Dancing the night away to the sweetly synthed sounds of indie darlings Cassette Kids is definitely the right way spend a balmy/boiling hot evening. The electro pop four-piece from Sydney have just embarked on a national tour, road testing songs from their forthcoming debut album, ‘Nothing On TV’ which is set to be released next March.

A guide to the 2009 Hola Mexican Film Festival

Fancy a holiday to Mexico? Si, si, mí también. Unfortunately I don’t have the funds to realise this dream right now. This is where the Hola Mexican Film Festivalsteps in, whisking us away from the tedium of everyday life and plunging us smack bang in the middle of a passionate, dramatic landscape with sensational views. This is the best of Mexico – on film. Armchair tourism at it’s finest, escapism and adventure that won’t damage your credit card nor risk your life. Spoken in Spanish with English subtitles - we’ll take it!

A Guide to the World’s Funniest Island – A 2 day comedy festival on Sydney Harbour

If a festival ever required a guide, it’s this one. Memorise these words now because come the 17th October you’ll be so high (on laughter) that you won’t be able walk, you’ll just float from act to act laughing your head off like that old geezer in Mary Poppins who later died from laughing. Except your future isn’t in any danger. You’ll just be trying to recreate the hilarity for the workmates and family who for whatever lame reason missed on the real deal. It’s they who should fear for their lives.

Review - District 9

Rated 5 stars

District 9 begins as a political documentary into the return of Apartheid to South Africa with one significant difference - the race under threat is alien.

Review - Rock, Paper, Scissors

Rated 3 and half a stars

How do you transform a small theatre in the bottom of a Woolloomooloo pub into a remote Scottish lighthouse, complete with crashing waves, cloudy skies and the cries of thousands of puffins? It's easy, if you're Director Leland Kean. The answer is as old as time itself – use the power of storytelling.

Competition - Win passes to see Up

Have you heard about the latest film from Disney Pixar? It's called Up. And we loved it.

Our review...

"Like an entire house lifted by colourful helium balloons and then transported to another country – I was blown away by this touching, wonderfully engaging film. I would not have believed it could happen, but such is the power of dreams, Pixar and 3D animation!

Confessions of a Harry Potter fan – a review of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Forgive me Truthbooth, for I have sinned. I am unable to tell the truth and write a non-biased review for your honest publication. For I am an unabashed Harry Potter fanatic.

Review - Poor Boy, Sydney Theatre Company

Pity the poor boy, he’s seven years old and his body has been taken over by an angry dead man wearing a zebra mask and seeking revenge. Spooky! Added to that, everyone around him keeps spontaneously breaking into song.
